I looked into the difference and similarities to get a better understanding of both holidays. What are the differences between Christmas and Hanukkah? Christmas and Hanukkah are holidays celebrated in the winter that are very different celebrations.
Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ, while Hanukkah is in remembrance of past miraculous event, when Jews reclaimed their temple after Syrians forced them to worship false gods. The lighting of the menorah for eight days is a part of celebrating Hanukkah. Hanukkah and Christmas are both important holidays for different reasons to different groups of people, but while they hold many differences, they also are similar in many ways. History is a big part of setting the holiday Christmas and Hanukkah apart.
Each of them is largely defined by commemorating an event in history. Christmas is a holiday that commemorates the birth of Christ, hence the name Christ in Christmas. The birth of Jesus who is the Christ is so important and celebrated so much today is because Jesus, the son of God humbled himself when he came to earth. He took on the weak state of flesh and walked among us and taught us. Most significantly he died on the cross to save us from our sins. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December every year, although this is most likely not the actual day that Jesus was born, it was chosen to be the day to celebrate the birth of Jesus. The traditions around the celebration of Christmas have changed much over the past hundreds of years, but the reason behind the day has stayed the same, to celebrate the birth of Christ.
I love that Spotify dropped a Hanukkah playlist , that Star Wars fans have a Medley , that Disney got its first Jewish princess in time for Hanukkah, and that Hallmark, however misguided , tried to include Hanukkah in its God-awful Christmas lineup.
Passover, the little-known Shavuot Pentacost and Sukkot Tabernacles are technically the three major holidays, the ones where Jews in ancient times had to trek all the way to the Temple in Jerusalem to celebrate. And let's not forget Purim, "The Jewish Halloween. There really is no comparison. Its own shrubbery! Its own icon! An Elf on the Shelf! And you think building a sukkah does make sense?!
But 8 days are perfect because if you go away for 7 days, you lose about a day travelling to the airport and standing in lines so at least 8 days gives you that perfect holiday! Steven Philips another member sums it up perfectly! The other 7 days are for the Jewish Goodbye!! I love the sing-a-longs. I get such nachas when we do the first night lighting of the candles and my husband belts out the Maot Tzur Yashoati!!
I will be in touch later today! There are plenty more competitions coming up! And you get a preview of the spiel and can add to it too! With Chanukah, it is very fitting that I have 5 gorgeous scented candles to give away!

Ours goes on and on and……. Wow Ken, you are a funny one indeed!!! Not a cheap holiday by any means!!! Christmas falls on the 25th of December while Hanukkah falls on any date during late November to late December owing to the Jewish calendar.
We celebrate both festivals with lights, family, food, and gifts. What is Christmas — Definition, Traditions 2. What is Hanukkah — Definition, Traditions 3. Christmas, Hanukkah. Christmas falls on the 25 th of December. Therefore, we can consider it as a both religious and cultural celebration.
In the past, Christmas was not actually celebrated as a single day, but as a whole season, beginning with the 24th of December, the Christmas Eve.
