Also, the ants may return in future. I find that every time we get a really big rain, ants are a problem in the house. So these baits may need to be re-used. If the ants are a grease eating type, add a small amount of bacon grease a few drops. Had a huge fire ant infestation in my backyard but poured a cup of this formula borax-maple syrup-bacon grease down the hole and it sterilized them in two days. Effective on cockroaches also. In your home, just paint a blob on card sized paper or cardboard so it doesn't make a mess.
Replace it in three days. As a beekeeper I think the idea of spraying honey flavored poison outside is not a good idea. Even without that consideration, ants aside from fire ants should be left on their own outside.
Ants are generally beneficial insects. One advantage to being a chewing tobacco user, the empty cans, with a few holes drilled in them make perfect ant hill bait sets. I put a little sugar water and borax in them and place them directly on outside ant hills. Works great and keeps other animals from getting to my mix. Refresh twice a week until activity is no more.
I have ants that come into my second story windows in my bathroom and bedroom. Currently I am under attack. I fed the ants 4 entire traps from Terro and several ounces of homemade ant poison with borox. They slowed down from hundreds to just a few, but there was always "just a few" walking around.

A week after cleaning up the mess that I was left with along with the Sevin dust, the ants have returned. And this time they appeared in another window also. I saw a video on youtube where a guy puts the bait in a small container along with a waffle and drills small holes for the ants to enter. This seems to be working ok.
Sometimes the ants disappear only to return later. Sometimes they leave at night, sometimes they do not. My next plan is to put some home made bait stations around the base of my house. I will take the fight to them. I hope it works but if not, I will have to treat around my home with some stronger poisons to kill the ants. One more thing I did notice. When I first put the bait out, the ants went ape over it. At this time I noticed about a dozen ants that were many times larger than the other ants.
I have had many attacks but this was a first at seeing this larger ant. Any idea if this is significant? And any suggestions as to what kind of ant poison to spray around the outside of my home?
