If Christina Aguilera was trying to prove that she had no bias towards her childhood friend and fellow former Disney Mouseketeer Tony Lucca tonight, she certainly achieved her aim. Lucca, who is now a contestant on the talent contest, starred on the show in the early '90s alongside Aguilera, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.
Despite his connection to Christina, Lucca decided to be on Adam Levine's team after an initially awkward reconciliation between the former child stars, but his old friend did offer him support in the battle rounds. Cheers, mate! Tony Lucca looks unimpressed as old 'friend' Christina lets rip into him tonight on The Voice, perhaps he preferred Britney. Tonight, however, Christina went for the jugular and slated her old friend as 'one-dimensional' before making a dig about Timberlake offering support to his friend.
The singer turned actor, who is still close friends with Lucca, tweeted his support via Twitter. Lucca responded with a 'Thanks homie! Working for it: Tony really struggled to overcome falsetto weakness but when he did, Christina was waiting.
Keeping the faith: Everyone was stunned by Christina's lambasting of Tony, and her Justin dig. But it was soon to become clear that Christina thought the tweet was inappropriate. Lucca performed Peter Gabriel's In Your Eyes, and after struggling during his rehearsals, the singer really managed to pull off a strong performance. Before adding: 'That was, ya know, a good performance.
I just find you to be very one dimensional,' before adding that she didn't see how he could 'grow' further in the competition. OMG, Christina said something nice! Juliet gave the 'best performance of the night so far' according to a begrudging Aguilera.
So far, so harsh but as a judge, Christina is of course entitled to her opinion. But then that odd, rather loaded jibe about Timberlake came, and left Aguilera's fellow judges and the audiences in the studio and at home wondering what bitter enmity had been forged between those Mouse ear wearing children all those years ago. She said: 'You've got me and your old Mouseketeer buddies behind you. And Justin in particular but I hope this is really a contest about the voice. Smashing performance: Katrina shone on the Pumpkins Tonight, Tonight although her vocals didn't match the original according to Cee Lo.
Don't Leave Her This Way: Cheesa was described as 'dramatic' and 'awesome,' not bad for a year-old. An awkward silence then fell upon proceedings, 'that's honest' Adam deadpanned as everyone tried to take in the oddly personal attack.
Adam warmed proceedings by telling the stunned singer that he was 'so proud' of the way he sang one of his 'favourite songs ever. Kim Yarbrough, motored through Adele's Rolling in the Deep but suffered in comparison, Blake said the performance 'got better' but was sharp at times and Cee Lo thought Kim should have picked a different song.
Adam agreed and added: 'You're an unbelievable' singer, but 'there were some problems. Mathai,18, offered a take on John Legend's Ordinary People which Christina, warming to her Simon Cowell style judgingn said was a 'bit loungey' for her.
Cleopatra coming-atcha: But Erin needs to be more aggressive according to her mentor Cee Lo. Blake was more positive and said he was drawn to the singer during the performance, while Adam said his act had put in a 'magical' performance. Karla Davis supplied a twist on her country style by performing Airplanes by B.
Christina liked Karla's 'sweet voice,' but said she was too quiet, whereas Blake said the song choice limited her somewhat. Now, while my Obsessedie Megan is the resident The Voice fan Monday night's I'm breaking down all that's happening on Dancing with the Stars for you guys , I had to step in here and say my piece. After last night, it's obvious that Christina has it out for Tony and it's awkward, tense and beyond uncomfortable.
Let's recap. During the audition rounds, I nearly broke my ankle when I flew off my couch in utter excitement when I saw Tony! It's not like he's been hiding in a hole since his MMC days. Christina did not choose Tony for her team he's on Team Adam Levine and did not even recognize him until he was all the way backstage and ran after him. View Iframe URL. And Justin in particular. Cee Lo disagreed, saying the performance was "a success. James Massone , the young body-shop worker from Boston, is learning a lot from his mentor, like the fact that he's a favorite amongst the female fans of the show.
Oh, and how to sing better and stuff. Blake almost threw his panties on the stage, while Christina liked the more subtle approach from James, but noted that he had some pitch problems. Cee Lo's review? Rocker Juliet Simms busted out an energetic version of "Roxanne" that impressed all four mentors. Adam is "pissed" because he wants Juliet on his team, calling her performance "the best so far. Blake found it "a little evil, hellish" and couldn't concentrate on the music. Christina disagreed and appreciated the production value.
Cee Lo's most unique performer, Erin Martin , took on the Bangle 's "Walk Like an Egyptian" and went all out: dressing like a modern-day Cleopatra, including background dancers, which one of the judges was not fond of. Christina loved the theatrics, but said Erin didn't bring it. Blake wasn't feeling the background dancers, who were walking on stilts around behind him, and said Jamar is too good to have those distractions onstage.
