As far as Kojima hating it, he wouldn't have gone as far as to state that MGS4's production team cannot finalize its storyline until MPO's storyline was finalized, or even add MPO's stills or even that timeline of his in MGS4 if he had hated it that much, or keep it on the oddly absent now timeline on the official site.
He most certainly would not have included it on the MGSagas timeline, either or in the ending credits. And Kojima never actually stated it was crap, BTW. User Info: beardface Kojima may not directly state he does not like the game, but to not include PO again for a second collection makes it seem like he's sweeping it under the rug.
Ghost Recon FS: Where you can be invisible and a noob at the same time! Ready for monster hunter world? He actually would directly state that he disliked the game, actually.
And why would he have allowed it to be included in the MGSaga timeline, the in-development Peace Walker timeline, and until that section was taken down, anyways even the MGS official site's timeline section?
He didn't reference the NES metal gear in any of the other games, nor did he have references to Snake's Revenge at all in the other games.
Metal Gear Rising isn't in either! Or MGSV! User Info: YoyokuKO. I don't know much about the NES MG other than it having different stages here and there and a different color palette.
Snake's Revenge is just pure garbage that doesn't deserve a Metal Gear title. Solid Snake is a martial arts expert? I should have worded my post better and said Kojima may not directly state that he does not or does like the game, and instead merely include or disregard it in the canon.
Though PO did have a different director and writer, the game didn't stray too far from the MGS ethos and Kojima did have a say in the development I think. It has some interesting plot points and dialogue. It should also be noted that the game was released before MGS4, and gave some interesting foreshadowing on that game, the most important one being the identity of some of the Patriots, which turned out to be a major plot point in MGS4.
Portable Ops introduced animated cutscenes by Ashley Wood which would also return for Peace Walker , and there are some great ones indeed.
As you would expect from a Metal Gear game, the soundtrack of Portable Ops is great. Portable Ops introduced many of the overall gameplay mechanics that Peace Walker expanded on, such as the soldier recruiting and mission selection. Additionally, the game allowed players to choose not to kill certain bosses in order to recruit them to your team.
The controls take some getting used to, the say the least, but if you can get past them it is actually a fun game to play. In conclusion, for the true Metal Gear fans who missed out on this game, it may be a good idea to try it out sometime. What matters is that Portable Ops exists and deserves to be acknowledged, flaws and all. An avid-lover of all things Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, and The Legend of Zelda, Renan spends most of his time passionately raving about Dragon Ball and thinking about how to apply Marxist theory to whatever video game he's currently playing.
